ABOUT OUR LIGHTS

The Greencastle Parks & Recreation departments has historically displayed lights in Robe Ann Park over the December holiday season. In 2020, a local resident approached the Putnam County Visitor’s Center to donate equipment to for a large lights installation. The Greencastle Civic League took up the task to collaborate with the Visitor’s Center and the Parks department to go BIG in lighting up Robe Ann Park. Finding ourselves in the midst of the pandemic this first year, these lights brought a little joy, hope, and happiness to our community.

With generous support from the Putnam County Convention & Visitor’s Bureau and other donors, the lights display has grown more than three-fold now in 2022, with over 130,000 lights. The goal is to continue expanding the lights throughout all corners of the park and grow the number of events taking place, making it a true festival.

The lights are installed by park staff and a large group of volunteers. As the light display grows bigger, we are looking for partners in funding the lights and their replacements as they wear out, as well as partners to help installing and taking down the lights. If you’re interested in helping in any way or would like to learn more, please contact lights coordinator Kate Knaul at knaulk@gmail.com.
